Leona Jean Grooters, formerly of Orange City, died unexpectedly in Minneapolis on June 24. She was born Oct. 28, 1927, the daughter of James and Minnie Duven. She was educated in the Orange City schools and at Northwestern College and taught in Boyden, Estherville and Chicago, IL.

She married James Grooters in 1952. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Susan Leigh of Scottsdale, Ariz., and a son, Howard James, of Minneapolis; two sisters, Esther Aalberts of Orange City and Edith Versteeg of Portland, Ore., and one brother, Howard Duven of Spokane, Wash. Another brother, Stanley Duven of Orange City preceded her in death in 1962. The Grooters family has lived in Wayzata, Minn, for the past 15 years.

Memorial services were held at the Wayzata Community Church on Friday and a graveside service was held at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City on Saturday, June 27 under the direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home. The American Cancer Society has been designated as the recipient of memorial gifts.
