Peter De Vries, well known early day farmer of Ireton, passed away last Friday morning at the home of his daughter Mrs. Ralph Heemstra at Maurice, following a heart attack. He had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Ireton Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Fred Grantham in charge. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Peter De. Vries was born at Frankhar, Holland, on Sept. 15, 1876. His early life was spent in Holland, but when he was 19 years of age he came to America. For two years he lived in Michigan and he then came to Sioux County and lived here ever since. He was married to Jennie Butler at Sioux Center and she preceded him in death nine years ago. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Ralph Heemstra of Maurice; Mrs. Lester Watkins of Long Beach, Calif.; Harry De Vries of Bellflower, Calif; and Walter De Vries, who is in the service and at the present time is in England. Three children preceded him in death. He is also survived by one brother, John De Vries of Hawarden and two sisters, who live in Holland. There are 19 grandchildren.
