William O. De Vries of Brainerd, MN, age 90, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.

He was born July 21, 1911, in Rock Valley, Iowa, to Opke and Bertha (Plummer) De Vries. He farmed in Iowa. He married Jeanette Warntjes on November 22, 1936 in Rock Valley. In 1940 they moved to Pequot Lakes and then to Baxter. He owned Baxter Lumber and Wrecking. They moved to California in 1962 where he worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 10 years, retiring at age 62. His wife died in November 1998. He moved back to Brainerd and lived with his children. He became a resident of Woodland apartments in 1999.

Survivors include two daughters Adrainna Block, Lake Shore, and Janet Valente, Crawford, Georgia; a son Gerben De Vries, Brainerd; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

His wife, Jeanette, an infant son, five sisters and two brothers died earlier.

Services were held on March 16 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village Chapel with Duane Block and the Rev. Mark Whittemore officiating. Brenny Funeral Home of Baxte was in charge of arrangements
