Gerrit S. De Vries, 89, of Maurice, died Monday, April 29, in the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Rev. Edward Mikse officiated. Burial was in the Sherman Township Cemetery at Maurice, under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Visitation was held from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 1, at the funeral home.

Mr. De Vries was born on May 12, 1895, at Maurice. He married Alice Hoogland on January 27, 1922, at Sioux Center. The couple lived in Sioux Center, Perkins, Boyden and Alton before moving to a farm near Maurice in 1942.

Mrs. De Vries died in 1967. Mr. De Vries retired and moved into Maurice in 1969. He was a member of the First Reformed Church.

Survivors include four sons, George of Round Lake, Minnesota, Alfred of Maurice, Harold of Hull, and Leroy of Denver, Colorado; three daughters, Jeanette Buffington, Hawarden, Mrs. Milton (Alita) Remes of Denver, and Mrs. Tony (Emma) De Joode of Stanchfield, Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. Jake Huizenga of Orange City; 25 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
