Charles J. De Vries, 92, of Orange City, passed away Thursday, October 29 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

Charles was born October 13, 1895 at Orange City, the son of Jacob De Vries and Dora Klay De Vries. He served in the United States Army during World War I. On June 30, 1921 he married Marie Prins at Sioux Center. He was a lifetime resident of Orange City, where in earlier years he was an insurance salesman. Mrs. De Vries passed away December 24, 1974 at Orange City. In 1985 Mr. De Vries became a resident of the Heritage House.

He was a member of Floyd Masonic Lodge 557 AF&AM and a 50-year member of Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies. He was also a charter member of Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post 329.

Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy) Ver Steeg of Evanston, Illinois; a son, Warren of Mason City; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife, Marie, he was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 31, at the Van Etten-Oolman- Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Cecil Martens of the First Reformed Church in Orange City officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
