Charles H. De Vries, 87, of Orange City, passed away Thursday, November 24, at the Orange City Municipal Nursing Home.

Charles H. was born September 1, 1901 at Orange City, the son of H. De Vries and Johanna Ypma De Vries.

On September 5, 1927, he married Jennie Vellinga at Orange City. They lived in several central Iowa communities where Mr. De Vries operated clothing stores. In 1932 they moved to Orange City where he was a retail merchant. For many years he operated the Gamble Store, retiring in 1958. In September of 1985 he became a resident of the nursing home.

Mr. and Mrs. De Vries were charter members of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church. He had been a member of the board of directors of the Okoboji Bible and Missionary Conference, and in 1949 was part of a Youth for Christ team that went to the Netherlands.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie; a son, Harvey and his wife Geri; two grandchildren, Timothy Charles and Jana, all of Minneapolis; and two sisters, Clair Pals of Minneapolis, and Gertrude Aalders of Hull.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters; three brothers, Stephen, Andrew and Gerrit, and a sister, Agnes Peters.

Memorial services were held Saturday, November 26 at the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City with the Revs. Henry Elgersma and Willis Vander Kooi officiating. Interment was prior to the service at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.

Memorials are being directed to Hope Haven.
