Died: July 15, 1983

Joel De Vries, 26, died unexpectedly Friday, July 15, in Nepal.

Memorial services will be Friday, July 22 at 10:30 A.M. in the First Reformed Church, Orange City. Dr. Carl E. Zylstra will officiate. Interment will be held at West Lawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Van Gelder Funeral Home.

Joel was born September 9, 1956 at Willmar, Minnesota, the son of George and Kathleen De Vries, Orange City.

He graduated in 1980 from Williamette Law School in Salem, Oregon. He also attended Northwestern College and graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He spent a semester in Seville, Spain where he studied Spanish.

He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Oak Hill Christian Reformed Church in Portland, Oregon. Most recently he was employed by Aramco Oil Company in Saudi Arabia. He was a member of the law firm of Tollessen, LeChevallier and Patrick of Portland, Oregon.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George De Vries, Jr. of Orange City; three brothers, George III of Sioux Center, Dr. Nicholas of Salt Lake, Utah, and Nathan, at home; a sister, Maria of Kanazawa, Japan; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Wielenga of Orange City.
