James John Hollander, son of Teunis and Hattie Hollander, was born on May 10, 1908. He married Priscilla Vermeer on August 10, 1932 at Sioux Center. Survivors include his wife and three daughters; Ruth, Mrs. Mark De Ruyter of Fairfield CA; Lois Eakle of Littleton, CO; Martha, Mrs. Robert Kaufmann of Sherman, TX. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He attended rural elementary schools and Western Christian High School. After graduating from Calvin College, he taught math for five years at Kalamazoo, MI. Upon his return to Sioux Center in 1935, he worked in a variety of businesses including the hatchery and feed store which he owned for many years. He worked as a real estate broker after retirement from the hatchery.

Mr. Hollander was in the United States Navy during World War II. He served his community as town treasurer for over twenty-five years and was active in the Sioux Center Civic Club and the American Legion. In his many years of membership in Sioux Center First Reformed Church, he served as elder and as a catechism and Sunday School teacher.

He is also survived by a sister, Julia, Mrs. John Vreeman of Wilmar, MN; two brothers, John and Rev. Harold Hollander of Lynden, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anna, Mrs. Tony Vander Wilt.

He will be missed by his family and his many friends and relatives.
