Margaret Schroeder, 78, of Rock Valley, died Friday, August 8, in a Rock Valley hospital. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, August 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. D. R. Smith officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The deceased, the former Margaret Akin, was born August 14, 1907, in rural Rock Valley. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School, attended Mount St. Clare Junior College at Clinton, and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She taught for several years at several North Dakota high schools. She married C. J. "Jim" Schroeder on April 14, 1935, in Tripp, South Dakota. They made their home in Rock Valley.

-She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and sang in the church choir, which she had also directed. She helped establish the Rock Valley Arts Council, Senior Citizens Club, Summer Recreation Council and the Betterment Council. She was currently active with the Justice for All organization and Iowa Lakes Area Agency on Aging.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, James of Le Mars, and Matthew of Saramac Lake, New York; two daughters, Sharon Donovan of San Diego, California, and Ellen Schroeder of Austin, Texas; one brother, Dr. Joseph Akin of West Point, Nebraska; one sister, Lucille Marcheschi of De Kalb, Illinois; and four grandchildren
