Ray L. Smith, 58, of Hawarden, IA, died on Wednesday December 5, 1990 at Marian Health Center in Sioux City where he had been hospitalized the last two months. Services were held on Saturday morning, December, 8, 1990 at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden, the Reverend Loren Vogler officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.

Mr. Smith was born on June 8,1932 in Le Mars, IA, to Ray and Phyllis Peebles Smith. He grew up
in Le Mars and later moved to Hawarden where he worked as a police officer. He later worked at
Kent Feed Store and with the Wood Insurance Agency before his retirement. He lived in Des Moines for a short time before returning to Hawarden. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden.

Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Smith of Le Mars; a son, Joseph of Hawarden; three daughters, Elise (Mrs. James) Sailer of Schleswig, Dianne (Mrs. John) Boger of Junction City, KS, and Rita (Mrs. David) Vander Feen of Hawarden; eleven grandchildren; a brother, Ron Smith of Le Mars; and two sisters, Beverly (Mrs. Herman)Kowalke and Janice (Mrs. Richard)Gaul, both of Le Mars. He was preceded in death by his father.
