R.E. Jongewaard —June 20, 1997

A former resident of Sioux Center who loved to come back to visit his old hometown died last week. He was R.E. (Gene) Jongewaard of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was an employee- benefit consultant for Aetna Life Insurance for 50 years. He died at Winter Haven. Florida, on June 20.

Jongewaard was a veteran of WorldWar II. He was a master sergeant in the 7th Army, chaplain section, serving in Africa. Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was an elder. Sunday-school superintendent, choir member and amember of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. A memorial service will be at Northminster Church on Wednesday. Burial will be at a grave-side service at Memory Garden Cemetery in Sioux Center on Friday at 10 a.m.. the Rev. Brian Steenblock officiating.

Survivors include his son. Donald Neal Jongewaard; his daughters Ellen Kinney and Pauline Hopcraft; his sister. Beth Eppink; and three grandchildren.
