Peter Warren Haak, age 80, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at his home in Rock Valley, IA. Memorial services were held Friday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Rev. C. Eric Fennema was the officiant. A private burial at Valley View Cemetery was held prior to the memorial service.

Peter Warren Haak was born on November 23, 1921 in Strasburg, ND, son of Rensie and Ann Droog Haak. He grew up on a farm near Hull, ND. Peter graduated from Strasburg High School in 1940. He was drafted into the US Army in September of 1942. Peter married Violet Van Beek, while home onfurlough, on July 6, 1944. He then fought in WWII in the European Campaign from August 1944 through December 1945. After his service in the Army,

Peter returned home and farmed in North Dakota for a number of years, and also worked a number of other jobs driving a bulk gas truck, school bus and milk truck. He also did custom bailing and worked in the local farm store. He was a member of the Strasburg Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher.

In the fall of 1970, Pete moved his family to Sioux Center, IA. There, he worked for Nyhof Lawn Service, AMPI, Interstate's Electric and Groschopp. In Sioux Center, Pete was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church. In 1997, Pete and Violet moved to Rock Valley, IA, where he thoroughly enjoyed being a foster grandparent. Pete was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

Peter leaves behind a large legacy of love with all the pieces of woodwork he has crafted. This was his favorite past time and labor of love for each member of his family. Left to cherish his memory arehis wife of 58 years, violet; 3 daughters and their husbands: Marlene and Ron Abbas, Joan and Lyle Vande Kamp, all of Sioux Center, Iowa, Malia and Jim Urwin of Pierce, NE; two sons and their wives: Larry and Yvonne Haak, Duane and Marva Haak, all of Rock Valley, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; three brothers: Albertus of Pollock, SD, Elmer and wife Phyllis of Linton, ND, and Gary and his wife Aggie of Hauge, ND; one sister, Alma Van Beek of Baldwin, WI. Peter was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ada Rodenburg.
