Mrs. John Smit, formerly Louisa De Boer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dowie De Boer, was born on a farm near Alton, Iowa, on November 13, 1879, and died on February 13, 1942, at 7:45 P.M. in Hull Hospital of Numerous complications.

Louisa De Boer grew to womanhood on her parents farm, and was married to Mr. John Smit of Alton on February 18, 1902. The first three years they lived in Alton. From there they moved to a farm near Boyden, where they remained seven years. They then moved to a farm north of Hull, where they lived until they retired to their present home in Hull in 1926. Sunday she was taken to the Hull hospital suffering with a complication and later pneumonia set in. So on Friday evening she passed away at the age of 62 years and three months.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, John Smit, four children: Walter and Julia (Mrs. Gt. Holkamp) of Sibley, August and Dowie of Hull, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, 8 sisters and 5 brothers, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the First Reformed Church in charge and the Rev. Jager, her pastor officiated.

Pallbearers were members of the consistory of which Mr. Smit is an elder: Jake Moss, Albert De Wild, John Tymans, Morrel Steintjes, John Vande Berg and Henry Hubers.
