Thomas Smit, 63, of Maurice died suddenly Friday, November 27, at his farm near Maurice.

Services were at 10 A.M. Tuesday, December 1, at First Reformed Church in Maurice, with the Rev. Kenneth Westrate officiating. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery.

Smit was born March 18, 1924, at Le Mars. He married Gertrude Van Engen January 9, 1947, in Ireton. The couple farmed south of Maurice.

Smit was a member of the First Reformed Church where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; four daughters, Tyanne Downing and Bonnie Uhlrich, both of Denver, Donna Zwart of Hawarden and Carla Anderson of Sioux City; a son, Dale of Orange City; a sister, Nellie Kuiper of Wyoming, Michigan; three brothers, Casey of Boyden, Pete of George and John of Miami, Oklahoma; and 13 grandchildren
