Esther Annie Smit, 79, of Hull died Saturday, September 9, at her residence. Services were Thursday at First Reformed Church with the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Burial was at the Hospers Cemetery.

Esther was born on July 5, 1916, the daughter of Henry and Annie (Vosskuil) Lankman. She was raised in the Boyden-Hull area. On March 4, 1938, she married John Hulst at Hospers. The couple lived in Northwest Iowa. He died on September 24, 1965, at Newkirk. On July 17, 1973, she married Leonard Smit in Sioux Center. They lived in Doon and later in Hull. He died on November 9, 1981, in Hull. She was a member of First Reformed Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Bauer of Rock Rapids; three grandsons, Jason, Jeremy and Jordan; a sister, Hermina Bomgaars of Sioux City; three nephews and two nieces.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Audrey Elaine Hulst and Joanne Elaine Hulst; a son, Leslie Smit; a sister, Jeannette Holtrop; and a brother, Harry James Lankman.
