Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Bert Smit, who died at his home in Orange City Tuesday, August 18, after a long illness. Mr. Smit was an Orange City resident since 1942. He was formerly from Boyden.

He was married to Dora Van Stryland of Boyden, who passed away in 1927. Preceding her mother by a few years was Mr. and Mrs. Smit’s daughter, Nelvina, 9. Another daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Fiebig, passed away five years ago.

Surviving her father is Mrs. Alvin Den Hartog of Boyden.

In 1930, Mr. Smit married Mrs. Anna Moret, nee Anna Vander Poel, who survives with her daughter, Mrs. Nelson Bynes of Granville and Mrs. Douglas Ostlund of Aurelia. Also surviving are three brothers: Ralph and James Smit of Boyden and Henry Smit of Austin, Texas.

Rev. Jerome De Jong, nephew of the deceased, officiated at the services, which were held in the First Reformed Church of Orange City. Interment was made in the Boyden Cemetery.
