Alton Democrat of April 13, 1907

Thomas King one of Sioux County’s aged citizens passed away Wednesday of infirmities coming with the years at his home in Maurice at the advance age or eighty years.

Thomas King was born in County Galloway Ireland. He came to this country long before the civil war and followed railroading in Kentucky before and during the war. Coming to Sioux County about twenty four years ago, he has resided at Maurice since. He was an honest upright man and a devoted husband and a loving father and a kind neighbor and one of the zealous members of St. Mary’s church.

He is survived by his widow Mrs. M. (Ann) King and two (step daughters) daughters Mrs. Quinlin (Kate Mrs. John) of Larchwood, Mrs. Cribbins (Peter) of Holden Missouri, Patrick Burke (step son) of Cincinnati OH, and sons Thomas King of Maurice and Mike King of Utica SD. The former three children being his step children. Funeral took place Friday in St. Mary’s church and interment was made in St. Mary’s church lot, Rev. E. T. McNally the pastor officiating at the services at the church and grave. The bereaved family have our heartfelt sympathy in their great loss of a kind husband and loving father.

(Attempt was made by submitter to find the wife’s maiden name and that encompassed a lot of research. Found that the step daughter was Sabrina Burke Mrs. Peter Cribbins daughter of Patrick Burke and Ann Coyne, she was born 20 Apr 1858 Nashville TN died 1937 in Idaho. Kate Burke born Aug 1863 Kentucky to Peter Burke and Ann Coyne was married to John Quinlin and they lived by Larchwood, she died 1945 South Dakota. So the first husband of Ann Coyne was Patrick Burke, he died before 1868.
Ann Coyne married Thomas king in Kentucky, they had Michael King born about 1868 and Thomas King born about 1872. Sources – 1925 Iowa state census, 1880 census of Boyd Kentucky, 1885 census of Sherman township Sioux county IA, and Ancestry.com. The obituary of Ann Coyne Burke King 1831-1913 was not found in the Sioux County papers, so could have died elsewhere, however she is buried in St. Mary’s cemetery by her husband.)
