MRS. DICK SMIT
Mrs. Dick Smit, 79, of Doon was dead on arrival Friday, January 25, at a Rock Rapids hospital. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church, Doon, the Rev. Norman Menning officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Doon, under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

The former Bertha De Jong was born Sept. 28, 1900, in The Netherlands and came to America in 1917, She was married on Feb. 22, 1922, at Alton, Iowa, the couple farmed in the Doon area. Mr. Smit died Jan. 19.1972.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Stewart (Nellie) Kuiper of Wyoming, Mich.; four sons, Thomas of Maurice, Iowa, Casey of Boy den, la., Peter of George, la., and John of Kirkhoven, Minn.; three brothers, John of Paramour, Calif., George of Artesla, Calif, and Chester of Denver; 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren
