Mrs. Clara Jean Torwelle, 89, 905 Cecelia St., died Wednesday, August 27 at a Sioux City hospital after a sudden attack. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday in the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside, The Rev. Daniel Johnson of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, Iowa with graveside rites conducted by the Rev. Paul Sieveking of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ireton.

Mrs. Torwelle, the former Clara Jean Willemstyn, was born May 31, 1911, in the Netherlands. She came to the United States as a young child. She lived in Sully, Iowa later moving to Sioux Center, Iowa where she attended school. She attended Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. She married Carl H. Torwelle in 1927 at Ireton. He died Sept. 4, 1962 in Sioux City. She worked for Otis Electric Co. in Hawarden for11 years. She moved to Sioux Cityin 1959 and worked for St. Joseph Hospital for 16 years.

Mrs. Torwelle was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include one son, Melvin Dean of Ireton; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Helen) Plueger of Le Mars and Miss Janis T. at home; two sisters, Mrs. John (Cora) Aloff of Grand Rapids, Mich, and Mrs. Ed (Elizabeth) Schaap of Orange City; one brother, William of Orange City; three halfbrothers, Harvey Pluim of Orange City, Kenneth Pluim of Sioux Center and Donald Pluim of Hull; five grandchildren; and one great ;grandchild.
