R.A. Shriner, 78, a Hawarden business man for more than 50 years, died at the Hawarden Hospital Monday.

Memorial services will be held at the Associated Church at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. C. I. Wilkens of Castlewood, S.D. will be in charge. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Service.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Shriner, he was born in Vermillion, S.D., December 29, 1873. At the age of six he moved with his family onto a farm near Portland, Ore. After a few years in Oregon, the family returned to Vermillion to live on his grandfather's farm.

His education was received in the elementary and public schools of Vermillion and the University of South Dakota. At an early age he took up the art of photography, which he followed through his whole life. He worked first in studios at Elk Point, S.D. Cherokee, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. Later he came to Hawarden and bought Brown and Silver Studio. He was in this business for more than 50 years, until last January 10 when he was taken ill.

In Omaha he met and married Miss Elsie Hodgson of Council Bluffs, Iowa and they came to Hawarden to make their home. She died in 1917.

He was married to Miss Jennie Smith in 1919. Though there were no children by either marriage, it was his privilege to assist in rearing in his home of four children.

Mr. Shriner was a member of the Baptist church in his early years but on coming to Hawarden he became a member of the Presbyterian Church. For years he was superintendent of the Sunday School and for many more years served as clerk of the session.

Survivors are his widow and several nieces and nephews. A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
