Orange City News.
Mrs. Alice Van Engen a widow of eighty two years old died on Saturday afternoon. For a year or two she had suffered from what was supposed to be cancer of the stomach. Only the last two days of her life however the disease took on an active form.

She leaves three children John Henry living at Doon and Frederick and Mrs. Sliekers who reside here. She was a worthy though unostentatious woman. Her funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the Chr. Ref. Church.

Vrijdag de vorige week overleed alhier, betrekkelijk onverwacht, de onde heer Harm Van Engen in den onderdom van 72 jaren en 2 maanden. De begrafenis had Maandag plaats, bij welke gelegenheid door Ds. E. Van den Berge een word gesproken werd.

Friday last week died here, rather unexpectedly, the older gentleman Mr. Harm Van Engen at the age of 72 years and 2 months. The burial place Monday at this place, at which Rev. E. Van den Berge the sermon was spoken.

(According to family research – Harm Van Engen was born 28 Feb 1820 in Emlichheim, Germany, married 3 April 1851 there to Aaltien/Aaltje Peters born 1 Oct 1824 in Wilsum Germany, she died 18 Aug 1906 Orange City IA. Harm died April of 1891 Orange City IA. He was the son of Geert Albers (VanEngen) and Fenne Swiers . He had at least four children born at Coevorden Drenthe Netherlands – Geert Van Engen born 1852, Aaltien 1854, Jan Hendrik 1857, and Frederik 1861.)
