Mrs. Lawrence Smith, 68, Estherville, formerly of Hawarden, died Monday, April 14 in a hospital at Rochester, Minn., of a brief illness. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church at Hawarden. The Rev. Max Goldman officiated. Burial, was in the Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of the Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Smith, the former Mildred Mary Walters, was born Sept. 21, 1911, at Rockwell City. She graduated from Morningside College in 1932. She was married Jan. 2,1935, at Rockwell City. Mr. Smith died Dec. 26,1957. She taught school in the West Sioux District for 14 years, retiring in 1973 and moving to Estherville. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Association of University Women, and was active in the Iowa Women's Political Caucus.

Survivors include one son, Larry of Montrose, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Brad (Paula) Oltrogge of Madison, Wis. and Mrs. Dennis (Carla) Ridout of Estherville; one grandson; andtwo brothers, Robert of Humboldt and Gerald of Rockwell City.
