Joseph McCormick
Joseph Clarence McCormick, 73, Downey, Calif, passed away March 23 at Downey Community Hospital, where he had undergone surgery. He had been in failing health since a heart attack in 1975.

Funeral services were held March 27 at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Belflower. The Rev. Rowland Chandler officiated. Interment was at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier. Mr. McCormick was born January 15, 1907 at Alcester, Union county, South Dakota to Georgina and John McCormick. He and his twin brother, John, were baptized in infancy at the Methodist Church in Alcester.

The family later moved to Hawarden and lived for several years in Caliope. He married Leora Fredrickson of Akron Nov. 16, 1927 with the Rev. Oscar. F. Bohman of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Akron, officiating. From that date they lived in Hawarden where he pursued his occupation as a cement mason. He was confirmed February 18, 1934 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hawarden by Rev. George Steinkamp. In 1941 the family moved to California where he retired in 1972 at Downey.

Survivors include his wife, Leora; one son, Daryl; four daughters, Mrs. Bill (Janita) Cook, Mrs. Jerry (Jayone) Singley, Mrs. Bob (Kay) Jones, Mrs. Jim (Sondra) Robertson and eleven grandchildren.
