Naomi M. Schwiesow, 88, of Hawarden, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Funeral Service was Jan. 16, at the Associated Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Rick Kargard officiating. Burial followed in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden assisted with arrangements.

Naomi Maurine Schwiesow was born April 12, 1917 in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of Marvin S. & Elsie (Garke) Waterman. She spent her childhood in Union County and married Henry J. D. Schwiesow in 1938 in Canton. After their marriage they made their home in Hawarden. Naomi worked at the Panske Nursing Home in Hawarden for many years.

Henry died on Jan. 13, 1983. Since 1998 Naomi has been a resident of the Hillcrest Health Care Center.

She is survived by five children: Dorothy Heintz of Nevada, IA; Jim Schwiesow of Orange City; Marcene Ludwigs of Ireton; Kent Schwiesow of LeMars, and Mel Schwiesow of Ireton; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Patty; three grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Opal, Frances, Audrey and Wanda, and her six brothers, Leland, Raymond, Merlyn, Kurt, Nolan and Wayne.
