Perla Schwiesow, 92, of Cottage Grove, Ore, formerly of Hawarden, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at Cottage Grove. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, with Military Rites by the Hawarden American Legion and VFW. Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden is in charge of arrangements.

Perla Schwiesow was born Oct. 23, 1913 in Coleridge, Neb., the daughter of Albert & Molly (Urwiler) Whitney. She grew up and attended rural school in Nebraska, and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1930.

Perla married Carl D. Schwiesow, Jan. 1, 1934 in Akron. Perla served with the US Navy during WWII. The couple moved to Hawarden in 1940, and later traveled many places while working for Western Contracting. Perla was in newspaper advertising sales. Carl preceded her in death in 1980 and in the early 1990's Perla began wintering in Mesa, AZ, and spending summers with her sister in Cottage Grove.

She was a member of the Associated Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Hawarden.

She is survived by her son, Donald Schwiesow of Island Park, NY, and two sisters, Mary Lou Whitney of Cottage Grove, and Opal Irene Gorham of Ashland, OR.

Perla was preceded in death by her husband, brothers and one sister.
