Died: April 29, 1944 Hawarden Iowa

J.B. Seiwerath, a resident of Hawarden for 24 years, died suddenly of a heart attack about 6:30 o'clock on Saturday evening, near the Lilly hotel, while on his way home from a shopping trip.

Mr. Seiwerath had purchased his week's supply of groceries from his nephew John Koob, and left the store shortly after 6 o'clock, going down the alley. The G. H. Berreth family, who live near the hotel, saw him sit down wearily as if to rest, before anyone could reach him he had passed away.

Mr. Seiwerath had been subject to heart attacks for some time. Early in March, when fire destroyed the barn at his place in the south part of town, he suffered a severe heart attack and was bedfast for a period of time. During the two weeks preceding his death, he had suffered several attacks.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, with Rev. Father R. Graf in charge. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

John Benedict Seiwerath was born in Luxemburg on March 20, 1870, and passed away on April 29, 1944, having been just past 74 years of age. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Koob in Luxenburg on April 24, 1894, and they observed their 50th anniversary last week. They came to America in 1920, locating in Hawarden, and lived here continuously ever since. He was employed in the Northwestern railroad yards, retiring seven years ago. His wife survives.

Emil Koob of Graetinger, a nephew, was in attendance at the funeral.
