Mrs. Martin Hoffman died at her home five miles south of Alton Tuesday evening at about six o’clock of acute heart failure. She was about her work as usual Tuesday morning and did not complain of feeling ill until near noon. She prepared dinner but could not eat. A doctor was called and when he arrived a two o’clock she was in a state of collapse and pats human aid.

The Very Rev. Bruno was called at once and administered the last sacrament. Deceased was born in the province of Bavaria Germany and came to this country with her folks when a girl and was married in early womanhood to the husband who survives her.

To them six children were born of whom five still live to mourn with the father. The youngest is but a few days more than an year old. The Deceased has one brother Jake Herbst, residing a few miles south of the Hoffman place in the edge of Plymouth county. The rest and a sister and four brothers live in Dubuque county. Her sister and brother Joe came last Sunday for a visit. The other members of her family came at once upon hearing of the death.

The funeral was held from St. Mary’s church in Alton on Thursday. The sudden death of Mrs. Hoffman was a shock to the entire community especially to her many friends. She wa a most estimable young woman and was beloved by all who knew her. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of all. The funeral was a large one. Among others form a distance were Martin’s father and mother and sister from Jackson county, his bretherinlaw Frank Arens of Alexandria SD and Frank Majairus and wife of Oyens. Also Martin’s and schoolmate Herny Koob of Iona MN.
