Andrew Anema, 80, of Ireton, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 6, 1998, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center.

Services were held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday morning, October 9, 1998, at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church, the Reverend John Engbers officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Andrew Anema was born August 24, 1918, on a farm near Ireton, the son of Paul and Katherine (Van Schepen) Anema. He grew up on various farms in Sioux County, Iowa. Andy married Jenette Koopmans on January 5, 1940, at the home of her parents, south of Ireton. He bought the Ireton Locker from his father in 1946, and returned to farming in 1949. In 1961, he purchased a farm ½ mile southwest of Ireton, where he farmed until failing health forced his retirement in 1997. He moved to the Sioux Center Nursing Wing on February 2, 1998. Mr. Anema was a member of the Ireton First Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a former member of the Board of Directors of Hope Haven.

Survivors include his wife, Jenette, at the Sioux Center Nursing Wing; three daughters and their husbands; Kathryn and Jack Riepma of Ireton, Ann and Lloyd Jasper of Orange City, Iowa, and Patricia and Keith Van Der Vliet of Marco Island, Florida; a son, Andrew “Butch” Anema and his wife, Ardi, of Merritt Island, Florida; three brothers and their wives, Gerrit and Dorothy Anema of Artesia, California, Fred and Tillie Anema of Sanborn, Iowa, and Clarence “Click” and Eileen Anema of Ireton; a sister and her husband, Josie and Ben Mulder of Pella, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Delbert Schipper, Sr. of Ireton; six grandchildren, Randy Riepma, Jerry Riepma, Shane Jasper, Shawn Jasper Jamie Van Der Vliet and Andrew (“Drew”) Anema; eight great-grandchildren, Riley Riepma, Kaylee Riepma, Blake Riepma, Noel Jasper, Jayne Jasper, Madison Jasper, Jesse Jasper and Kira Jasper; and a host of friends.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ann Marlene, at four months of age; and a sister, Jeanette Schipper of Ireton.
