Mrs. Martin (Loretta) Spieler, 70, of Marcus died Friday at a Sioux City hospital after a year of illness.

Services were held Monday in Holy Name Catholic Church at Marcus. Monsignor Gerald Lyon officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The rosary was said at 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. both on Sunday, at Roethler Funeral Home in Marcus.

Mrs. Spieler, the former Loretta Schneider, was born on July 30, 1913, at Alton. She married Martin Spieler on June 16, 1938 at Alton. He died on August 14, 1981. She was a homemaker, retired school teacher and a member of Holy Name Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She was on the Marcus Library Board and was a member of the Federated Women's Club.

Survivors include four sons, Deane of Cedar Rapids, Merle of Marcus, Dale and Lyle, both of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Mary) Case of Sioux City and Mrs. Tim (Lynn) Bindner of Alton and 16 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one sister.
