Died: June 21, 1998 Sioux City, Iowa

Geraldine Johanna Statema, 77, of Sioux Center died on Sunday, June 21, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were on Wednesday, June 24, at Ireton Christian Reformed Church, with student pastor John Klompien officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Statema was born on July 21, 1920, in Maurice, the daughter of Dick and Johanna (Kots) Schuller.

She married Arthur Statema on June 27, 1941, in Maurice. The couple lived in Maurice before moving to Ireton.

Mrs. Statema was employed as a cook at Ireton Christian School for 21 years.

Mrs. Statema was a member of Ireton Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed cooking, crocheting and gardening.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Don and Helen of Hospers, Peter and Nancy of Orange City and Merlin and Gayle of Sioux Falls; three daughters and their husbands, Joanne, and Gerald Franken of Sioux Center, Glenda and Gailyn Hagena of Lennox, S.D., and Bonnie and Art Boone of Sheldon; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta De Jager of Maurice and Ada Schuller of Orange City; and a brother, Richard Schuller of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, twin infant grandsons and an infant great-grandson.

Pallbearers at her funeral were Don, Pete,and Merlin Statema, Gerald Franken, Gailyn Hagena and Art Boone.
