Died: April 4, 2006 Hawarden, Iowa

Allan R. A"BicA" Bertram, 73, of Ireton, Iowa died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa following a sudden illness.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton with military rites conducted by the American Legion Bertram Post 276 of Ireton. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the family present beginning at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m. all at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. The Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Allan R. A "Bic"A Bertram was born on the Bertram family farm north of Ireton, Iowa on August 16, 1932 to Lorenz and Dorothy (Nicholson) Bertram. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and graduated from Ireton High School in 1950. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bic served his country from 1953-1955, spending 16 months in Korea.

He married Jean Hamilton on August 29, 1963 at the Presbyterian Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Together they made their home on the Betram farm north of Ireton where Bic farmed and fed cattle. He continued his formal education by attending Sioux Empire Community College in Hawarden. Bic and Jean retired from farming and moved into Ireton in January of 2006. Bic was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Bertam Post #276 of Ireton. He enjoyed fishing, especially walleye fishing at Chamberlain and also deer hunting.

Bic is survived by his wife Jean; 3 children, Carolyn Bertram of Ireton, Lori Betram of Brookings, S.D. and Mark Bertram and his special friend Hilary Stinton of Ireton; 3 brothers, Larry A "Bert" A Bertam and wife Joyce of Lancaster, California, Jim Bertram and wife Gloria of Lacrosse, Wisconsin and Tom Bertam and wife Dee of Sioux City, Iowa; 3 sisters, Jean Eilers of Murrieta, California, Joyce Rosenboom of Lexington, Kentucky and Karen Brockmann and husband Dick of Shelby, Iowa; also numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends.

Bic is preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Harriet; and a brother, Charles.
