Lawrence Van Wyk, age 77, of Orange City died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1992 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Donald De Glopper officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Lawrence Edwin was born Oct. 7, 1915 at Orange City, the son of Henry L. and Cora (Muilenburg) Van Wyk. He was raised at Orange City, attended Northwestern College in Orange City and St. Olaf College of Northfield, Minn. He later received his masters degree from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

On June 17, 1942, he married Dorothy Lois Parkes at Langfod, S.D. Since 1954, they have made their home in Orange City where "Prof" was professor of music at Northwestern College, directing the A Capella Choir.

He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church where he had served as an elder on the consistory and was director of the Senior Choir for many years.
He was a member of the committee that authored and published the Reformed Church in American hymnal "Rejoice in the Lord". Mr. Van Wyk was also involved in many community activities, including Tulip Festival musicals.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Marilyn and her husband Arlan Draayer of Sioux Center, Carol Fugitt of Lawrence, Kansas, Pat and her husband Geroge De Vries III of Sioux Center, and Judy and her husband David Meylink Sr. of Madison, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Brian and Doug Draayer, Jeff Schemper and his wife Jill, Jodi Schemper, Jessica and Jenny De Vries and Daniel Jr. and Scott Meylink; a sister, Wilma Joan and her husband Clifford Leslie of Orange City, and a brother Eugene and his wife Grace of Orange City. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ross Meylink.

Memorials are being directed to the Van Wyk Music Scholarship Fund at Northwestern College.
