Funeral services for Cornelius Van Zanten, 88, a retired farmer who died Thursday at a Sioux Center hospital after a long illness, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Vander Ploeg funeral home in Rock Valley, and 1:30 p.m. at the Rock Valley First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Allen Arkema officiated and burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

Mr. Van Zanten was born December 19, 1871, in The Netherlands and came to the United States in 1909. He married Bertha Vander Bent on March 5, 1896, in The Netherlands. Mrs. Van Zanten died in 1948.

Survivors include three sons, Tony and Case of Rock Valley and John of Burt, Iowa; six daughters, Mrs. Charles Kleinhuizen of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mrs. Louis Toering of Pipestone, MN.. Mrs. Alice Kooi of Sioux Center, Mrs. Gerrit Brands of Rock Valley, Mrs. Louis Kollis of Inwood, Ia., and Mrs. Gerrie Grevengoed of South Holland, Ill.; two brothers and one sister in The Netherlands; 50 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.
