Died: May 31, 1938

Mrs. Walter (Sue A.) Van Allen, former long time Hawarden Resident, died suddenly from a heart attack at her home in Dubuque, Iowa, about 9 o’clock Tuesday morning, May 31st, according to word received here from her daughter, Mrs. Effel Kampman of Elmhurst, Illinois. Mrs. Van Allen had been in poor health the winter but during recent weeks had been considerably improved. She attended church on the Sunday preceding her death and spent the following day visiting with relatives in Dubuque. On the morning of her death she had done a small washing and was busy dusting when seized with a sudden heart attack and fell to the floor. Apparently she died instantly.

The funeral was held last Thursday afternoon at the Egelhof Funeral Home and burial was at Dubuque.

Mrs. Van Allen first came to Hawarden with her family nearly thirty-five years ago and had many friends here who will learn with regret of her sudden death. She left Hawarden a number of years ago and has resided at Dubuque and at other places since then.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J.J. Kampman of Elmhurst, Illinois’ and one grandson, Allen Kampman. She also leaves two sisters and three brothers.
