The Rev. John Van Zweden, 91, pastor of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley for almost 30 years, died last Friday in Hegg Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

Services were held Tuesday at the church. The Rev. William C. Lamain and the Rev. Joel Beeke officiated. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

The Rev. Van Zweden was born September 28, 1888, in the Netherlands. He married Mary Rottier August 13, 1913, at Grand Rapids, Michigan. He taught for 13 years in the Netherlands Reformed Christian School, Grand Rapids. Following that he was pastor of the Netherlands Reformed Church, Passaick, New Jersey, from July 1924 until January 1946. He then moved to Rock Valley where he was the pastor of the church until his retirement in 1975.

The Rev. Van Zweden is survived by the widow; four sons, Cornelius of Grand Rapids; Jacob of Miami, Oklahoma, Adrain of Wayne, New Jersey, and Joseph of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two daughters, Mrs. John (Jane) Friesema of Rock Valley, and Mrs. William (Jackie) Rozeboom of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one brother, Niel of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four sisters, Cornelia Brouwer, Jean Williams, Margaret Nordyke, and Agnes Swain all of Grand Rapids; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
