Joe Kreykes, 86, of Orange City, died Thursday, June 10,1993 at the Orange City Municipal Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Monday, June 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Joe was born Jan. 16,1907 at Hospers, the son of Arie and Mattie (Reinsma) Kreykes. He was raised in the Hospers area. On Dec. 17, 1930 he married Henrietta Van Den Bosch. In earlier years he was a farmhand at Orange City and worked in a creamery at Boyden. About 1943 they began farming at Seney. About 1957 they moved to Orange City where they operated Kreykes Hardware, retiring in 1972. Mr. Kreykes became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in 1990. In 1991 he joined his wife at the nursing home.

Mr. Kreykes was a member of the First Reformed Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth and his wife Claudia of Cambridge, la. and Rod of Costa Mesa, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands; Shirley and Dick Hendrickson of Alamogordo, N.M., and Sharon and Allan Brink of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hattie Woudstra and Stella Verbrugge, both of Orange City. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, William and John, and a sister, Jeanetta Wiersema.
