Mrs. Lucy J. Vande Poppe, age 83, of Alton, passed away Saturday, August 27 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Lucy Jennie was born April 15, 1905 at Maurice, the daughter of Lewis Mieras and Jennie Mieras.

On February 12, 1935, she married Peter Vande Poppe at Maurice. For a short time they farmed at Maurice and then moved to Orange City. They lived most of their married life in Alton. Mr. Vande Poppe passed away June 5, 1979 at Alton.

In the fall of 1979, Mrs. Vande Poppe became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City and on October 15, 1980 she transferred to Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in Hull.

Survivors include her four children, Mrs. Ted (Marsha) Homan of Alton, Peter of Alton, Mrs. Dennis (Adrienne) Griffith of Anchorage, Alaska; and Elliott of Moreno Valley, California; and 11 grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, Jake and Abe Mieras, and four sisters, Ada Ard, Dena Melchers, Lillian Kemp and Minnie Westra.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 30 at the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Raymond Tilstra of the Reformed Church of Alton officiated. Interment followed at Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice.
