Sioux Center News, July 23, 1936

Albert T. Swarts long time Maurice resident passed away Thurs. p.m., July 16th at the age of 81 years, 11 months and five days, following a lingering illness. For months he was able to sit up only part of the day and failed rapidly during the hot weather. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., in the home and 1:30 at the Am. Ref. Church, Saturday with Rev. R. Duiker officiating.

Deceased was born in Friesland, Netherlands, August 10, 1854, married Sadie Dykstra there in 1875 and came to America 47 years ago settling in Hospers for about a year, the winter of which they lived in Orange City. The rest of his life he passed in Maurice where he was employed on the railroad and later at the lumberyard. He was the father of 12 children seven of whom died in infancy. Albert passed away in 1912; Mrs. Swartz in 1913; and Hattie, Mrs. Lake Warneijes, in 1925. Survivors include Neltje, Mrs. Pete De Jager of Ireton; Effie, Mrs. Able Popma of Sioux Center; and Tom at home, 21 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. The community extends the bereaved their sympathy.
