SPAIN, MCMULLEN

Funeral services were held for Mr. John T. Spain at the Saint Mary's Church on Wednesday morning at 9:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. David McGoey, pastor. Burial was made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Alvord. Mr. Spain died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. L. Doherty on Monday afternoon.

John Thomas Spain was born at Petersville, Iowa on March 25, 1865, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Spain. He attended school there and married Margaret McMullen and to this union were born nine children, six of whom survive.

He moved to Rock Valley in 1906 and farmed near Carmel for several years. He then moved to a farm near Alvord where he remained until he retired in 1932. Since then he has lived with his children, living with his daughter Mrs. R. L. Doherty for the last four years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church at Alvord and St. Mary's Church here.

Survivors include his six children; Agnes, Mrs. Lester Doherty of Rock Valley, James of Des Moines, John of Waterloo, Matthew of Belleview, Nebraska, William of Sheldon, and Daniel and Frank of Clinton; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Spain, James Spain, Matt Spain, Lee O'Connor, John Spain, and Dan Spain. Vander Ploegs were in charge of arrangements.
