Nellie Van Aalsburg, 97, Sanborn, died Thursday, March 10, at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn.

Services were Monday, March 14, at First Reformed Church in Sanborn. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home.

Nellie Van Aalsburg, daughter of John and Lydia (Steenhoven) Struyk, was born October 22, 1907 in Matlock. She lived her youth on a farm near Melvin, and received her education at Melvin Consolidated School. She married Peter Van Aalsburg on November 26, 1936, at her parents' home near Melvin. They farmed north of Sanborn until moving to their home in Sanborn in February 1965. She also had been employed in the kitchen at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. Mr. Van Aalsburg died June 15, 1987. She continued to make her home in Sanborn, and later resided at Prairie View Manor. She became a resident of Prarie View Nursing Home on February 24, 2000. She was an active member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn where she taught Sunday School and was a member of Ladies Aid and Guild. A special interest of hers included crocheting and she cherished the times she could spend with her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a brother, John and Mavis Struyk of Perry; and a sister Leona and Richard Bogaard of Sibley.

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Van Aalsburg; a sister, Cora Juber; three brothers, Arie, Bert and Pete Struyk.

Memorials may be directed to the First Reformed Church Building Fund or the Prairie View Memorial Fund.
