Robert F. Konz, 75, of Rock Valley, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church in Rock Valley. Father Eugene Murray was the celebrant .Burial was at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Hospers under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Robert was born on Nov. 24,1926, at Alton, the son of John P. and Theresa (Mousel) Konz. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic Academy in Alton and joined the U.S. Army after graduation in 1945. After being discharged from the service he returned home to farm with his father.

Robert married Bernice Hoffmann on Jan. 8, 1953, at Hospers. They moved to Alton where he worked for the Farmer's Elevator for five years. The couple then moved to the Heningfield farm near Rock Valley where they farmed for eight years. In 1966 they moved to the McNamara farm near Rock Valley and farmed there until their retirement into Rock Valley in 1989.

Survivors include his wife Bernice of Rock Valley; a son Donald Konz of Woodstock, Conn.; a daughter Kathy Konz of Rock Valley; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristen and Kelly Konz; two greatgrandchildren, Dominic and Zachary Konz; four brothers, Cletus Konz, Francis and his wife Agnes Konz, Ronald Konz, and Peter andhis wife Delores Konz, all of Alton; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Wally Lehnertz of Redmond, Ore., and Vi and Ray Krier of Remsen. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Leola; and a sister-in-law, Mary.
