Christine Kooi April 30. 1908—June 7, 1997
Christine Kool. 89, of Rock Valley died Saturday, June 7, at Hegg Memorial Hospital at Rock Valley. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley, with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial will be at the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation begins at noon Tuesday, June 1Q, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Christine Marie Van Zanten was born April 30, 1908. at Vlaardingen, Holland, the daughter of Cornelius and Huibertha (Vander Bent) Van Zanten. She came with the family to the United States when she was one year old. She married Ellis Kooi on July 20, 1929, near Lebanon. They farmed near Lebanon until retiring and moving to Rock Valley in 1973.

She was devoted to her family and her Lord. She enjoyed singing (especially hymns), flowers, reading and crocheting. She crocheted many afghans for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters and their husbands. Mrs. Clifford (Grada) Raak of Luverne, Minnesota, Mrs. Duane (Bertha) Vos of Sioux Falls. Mrs. Richard (Renzella) Kempema of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Robert (Karen) De Noble of Hills. Minnesota; three sisters. Katie Toering of Edgerton, Minnesota. Bertha Brands and Johanna Grevengoed, both of Rock Valley; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Kooi; infant daughter, Sandra Kooi; brothers, John, Tony, William and Case Van Zanten; and sisters, Betsy Kleinhuizen and Marie Kollis.
