Ellis Kooi July 28, 1907— November 11, 1998
Ellis Daniel Kooi, 91, of Rock Valley died on Wednesday, November 11, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley. Funeral services were on Saturday at Lebanon Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon, with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial was at Lebanon Cemetery.

Kooi was born on July 28, 1907, near Lebanon, the son of Remko and Grada (Kasteln) Kooi. He married Christine Van Zanten on July 20, 1929, near Lebanon. The couple farmed near Lebanon until 1939, when they moved to a farm near Rock Valley. They retired and moved into Rock Valley In January 1974. She died on June 7, 1997. He entered Valley Manor in June 1997. He enjoyed church activities and Rock Valley Senior Center.

Survivors include four daughters, Grada and her husband, Clifford Raak, of Luverne, Minnesota, Bertha and her husband, Duane Vos, of Sioux Falls, Renzella Kempema of Sioux Falls and Karen and her husband, Robert De Noble, of Hills, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, George and Greta of Sioux Center; and two sisters, Bertha Vander Lugt and Jennie Haverhals, both of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; an infant daughter, Sandra Kooi; a son-in-law, Richard Kempema; four brothers, Ben, Fred, Peter and John; and two sisters, Gertie and Dreaka Haverhals.
