Died: September 15, 2005 CaliforniaGilbert Charles Van Wyk, 92, of Bellflower, California passed away on September 15, 2005.
Services were held on September 19 at the Bethel Reformed Church in Artesia, California.
Gilbert Van Wyk was born on February 27, 1913 on a farm near Middleburg, Iowa. His parents were Arie Michael and Jennie (Vander Wilt) Van Wyk. He attended a rural school and graduated from Newkirk High School. He played baseball on the Junior League Team.
He was united in marriage to Adrianna Zevenbergen of Le Mars on June 2, 1938 at the home of Rev. Leroy Nattress. They lived and worked on a farm near Newkirk until 1956 when they moved to Bellflower, California.
After leaving Iowa, Gilbert worked in several steel fabrication companies, working in every aspect of the industry until he retired in 1975.
Gilbert loved sports, especially baseball. He enjoyed salmon fishing in Crescent City, California and playing cards with friends and family.
Gilbert and Adrianna celebrated 67 years of marriage on June 2, 2005. He was a long time member of Bethel Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife Adrianna; son, Arie Mitchell (Pat) Van Wyk; daughter Greta (Don) Corcoran; grandchildren Valeria (Doug) Valdez,
Amy Van Wyk, John (Kathy) Corcoran; two sisters, Irene Vellinga and Leola Te Grotenhuis.He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mitchell and John, sisters Sophia and Greta and three infant brothers and one infant sister.
