Sioux County Capital, February 4, 1988

Peter Van Gelder, 98, of Orange City passed away Sunday, Jan. 31 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Peter was born Feb. 25, 1889 in The Netherlands. As a child he came to the United States with his family and they settled south of Orange City. On July 30, 1939, he married Mary Tryszczyla at Sioux City. They made their home on the Hanemaayer farm west of Orange City where Mr. Van Gelder was a laborer. In 1980 Mr. & Mrs. Van Gelder became residents of Pleasant Acres.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Marie Turner of Sioux City; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Hattie of Hull and brother, Arie of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennie.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Home in Orange City. The Rev. Gerrit Docter officiated and interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
