Van Wyk, Minnie (Mrs. Arie) 1864-1951

Mrs. Minnie Van Wyk passed away at the Grossman Hospital at 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Mrs. Van Wyk had been hospitalized since July when she fractured her hip. A month agao she was dismissed from the hospital to return to the Pioneer Home. She was re-admitted in the hospital last week Thursday and lived but a few more days.

Mrs. Van Wyk nee Minnie De Jong was born December 26,1864 in Marion County, Pella, Iowa. She came to Sioux Center with her parents in 1871, settling on a farm 7 miles southwest of Orange City. Later the family moved nearer to town on what is now the Julius De Jong farm, 4 1/2 miles south of town. Mr. and Mrs. Arie Van Wyk were married in 1887 and started housekeeping on a farm 3 miles south of Orange City, where they lived until 1912 when they moved to Orange City. Mr. Van Wyk passed away in 1932.

One son preceded his parents in death at the age of 4, many years ago.

Surviving are 2 sons, Rev. John C. Van Wyk of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Henry L. Van Wyk of Orange City. The grandchildren are Rev. Gordon Van Wyk, missionary to China, recently returned to American with his wife and 3 children; Dr. Judson Van Wyk with wife and 1 child live at Cincinnati, Ohio and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wildeman and 2 children of Holland, Michigan; Lawrence Van Wyk, his wife and 3 children and Eugene Van Wyk of Orange City, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Leslie of the Island of Guam, where he is in naval service. Surviving also is one sister, Mrs. W.S. Short of Orange City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Henry Van Wyk home and at Trinity Reformed Church with Rev. C. Boonstra officiating. Interment was made in Orange City Cemetery.
