Herman Vollink, 84, of Orange City, died on Friday, January 1, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Funeral service was this morning, Tuesday, at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. John Engbers officiated. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton.

Vollink was born March 30, 1914, in rural Ireton, the son of Teunis & Minnie (Van Schepen) Vollink. As a farm boy in the Ireton area, he attended country schools and the Ireton Christian School.

On April 2, 1937, he married Wilmina Draayer in Ireton. They farmed in the Ireton Area. In February of 1994, they moved to Orange City. Since May of 1995, he has resided at either the Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen or the Heritage House.

He was a lifetime member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and later an elder. He had also been a member of the boards of trustees of the Ireton Christian School and Unity Christian High School in Orange City.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ruth Kamp of Merrionette Park, Illinois; and Wanda and her husband, Curt Miersma of Woodstock, MN; a son and his wife, Tunis & Kathy Vollink of Orange City; eight grandchildren, Harvey Oosterveen; Jewel and her husband, Dan Hutt; Laura and her husband, Gary Harmelink; Marlin Vollink and his wife, Diane; Kristy and her husband, David Moss; Scott Vollink; Chad Miersma; and Jason Miersma; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Art Vander Bilt, of Buena Park, CA; Cynthia Roskamp of Edgerton, MN; Jeanette and her husband, Lambert Roetman, of Hospers; and Alma Andringa of Orange City; and a brother and his wife, Gilbert and Bonnie Vollink of Archer.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Gerald Oosterveen, Bruce Vollink and Faith Miersma, and a brother, Fred Vollink.

Memorials may be directed to the Ireton Christian School.
