Sioux Center News, November 9, 1988

Herman Vollink, 72, of Rock Valley died Sunday, October 30, 1988 at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday in the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Raymond Denekas and the Rev. Norman Van Heukelom officiating. Burial was held in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held in the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mr. Vollink was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Sioux Center and attended Rock Valley Community School. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe from 1942 until 1945. On March 3, 1949, he married Winnie Pollema in Hull. The couple lived south of Rock Valley where he farmed with his father. They moved into Rock Valley in September 1987.

Mr. Vollink was a member of the First Reformed Church and had served on the Consistory of the church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Luella) DeJong of Primghar; four granddaughters, Mrs. Kurt (Beth) Schemmel of Alvord; Leah DeJong and Leigh Ann DeJong, both of Primghar and Ali Vollink of Sioux Falls and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Schemmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke & Nellie (DeWeerd) Vollink.
