Cletus Konz, 81, of Alton, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at his home. A funeral service was held Wednesday morning, April 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Churchin Alton. Rev. John Vakulskas officiated. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Cletus was born July 24, 1922, at rural Alton, the son of John P. and Theresa (Mousel) Konz. He was raised in the Alton area and received his education in both the rural school system and St. Mary's Academy in Alton. He then was engaged in farming with his father. On June 17,1947, he married Mary Quirin at Marcus. They farmed near Alton for 25 years and then moved into Alton in 1972.

He was then employed at the Alton Rendering Works in Alton from 1972 until retiring in 1987. Mary died Dec. 26,1996. Mr. Konz was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alton, Knights of Columbus and Sportsman Club, both of Remsen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and gardening.

Survivors include three daughters, Maryann Duff of Kansas City, Mo. and her children Valerie and Theodore; Karen and her husband Phillip Willett of Aurora, Colo, and their children Phillip and his wife Julie, Paul, Karen and her husband Mike Mueller and Kristine; and Barbara and her husband Carl Brenneman of Brentwood, Tenn., and their children Miranda, Ashley, Kayla, Andrew and Carly; two sons, Jack and his wife Wanda of Johnston and their children, Nicholas and his wife Andrea, Andrea and Amy; and Steve and his wife Coryne of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their children, Beau, Kassi and Brenna; six great-grandchildren; Nikita, Mary.Phillip and Amy Willett, Nathan Mueller and WraySzenderski; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Wally Lehnertz of Redmond, Ore., and Viola and Ray Krier of Remsen; three brothers, Francis and his wife Agnes, Ronald, and Peter and his wife Delores, all of Alton; and a sister-in-law Bernice Konz of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Duff; a sister, Leola Ricke; three brothers, Melvin and Ferdinand, both in infancy, and Robert
