Mrs. August Koopman Nee Bertha Ramaker 1904-1935
Sorrow fell heavily upon the Ramaker family and their many friends Monday, May 20, when Mrs. August Koopman, nee Bertha Ramaker, died at Watertown, S. D.Bertha Ramaker Koopman was born in Prairie View KS on Aug 19, 1904. At five years of age she came with her family to Sioux County. She attended rural school here and upon graduation went to Grundy Academy and College. She took a normal course at the State Teacher’s college Cedar Falls, receiving a national teachers certificate. For six years she taught in Chicago Christian School. After one year as a teacher at Pella, IA she did state wide observation work for the State Board of Education.
On June 14, 1933 she was married at Sioux Center to Rev. August Koopman. In December 1933 they moved to Willow Lake SD where Rev. Koopman had accepted the call to serve. As pastor of the Reformed church.
Funeral Here Thursday. On Wednesday a service was held at the Reformed Church of Willow Lake. Today, the funeral will be held at Sioux Center. Services well be held in the home of H. J. Ramaker at 1:30 p.m. and at the First Reformed Church at 2:00 p.m. The services will be conducted by the Reverends Tinklenberg, Mansen, and Schipper, classmates of Rev. Koopman.
Bertha Ramaker-Koopman died calmly with every assurance of the Christian faith. During her last hours she spoke of her readiness to meet her Savior, discussed arrangements for her burial, and gave advice about the care of her tiny baby boy.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. A. Koopman. her six weeks old son: her parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. Ra maker, Sioux Center; her sisters Mrs. J.R Ruys and Mrs. Ben B. Mouw both of Sioux Center: her brothers Henry and Bert o£ Sioux Center: Rev. G. Ramaker of Princeton, NJ.; Rev. ,T. Ramaker, Hartford, Conn.; Rev. S. Ramaker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
